Dear Fans of Women's Sports,
2024 marked an inflection point in women's sports that would have been hard to imagine even a decade ago. From Caitlin Clark’s effect on shattering women’s basketball viewership records to the Simone Biles triumphant return as the greatest gymnast of all time, from the Olympics achieving athlete parity to historic investments across women's leagues – this wasn't a year of incremental progress.
As we celebrate these achievements, we must acknowledge the generations of trailblazers who laid the groundwork: from Billie Jean King's fight for equal prize money in professional tennis to the 1999 U.S. Women's World Cup team that showed what was possible. Their persistence created the foundation for 2024's breakthrough moments.
Yet the question remains: Will this surge of attention and investment create lasting change? The metrics are promising – record attendance, unprecedented media deals, soaring valuations – but sustained progress requires converting this momentum into permanent structural changes across the sports landscape.
That's why this year's edition focuses not just on celebrating achievements: We also examine the forces that could make these transformations permanent.
We invite you to share your thoughts on each of our 10 Most Important Moments in Sports for 2024 and on our selection of the Sportsperson of the Year. Our first moment drops tomorrow.
Cheers,
